2016/2017 Striper Mafia Tournament Series

The Striper Mafia is hosting our second season of a "CPR" (Catch-Photo-Release) tournament series on Smith Mountain Lake, VA.   Events will be held in October, December, March & April during which the "slot" is in place to protect our larger fish, and be conducted in a "Catch-Photo-Release" style.  The format will feature a Captain's meeting on the evening before at a location to be defined to review the rules and hand out approved measuring devices & photo token cards and "lines in water" will follow at safe-light as designated for each tournament, with the "check-in" at a time to be determined later that day.  Maximum of 60 teams per event at this time.  Tournament fees are to be paid at the Captain's Meeting (in cash).  Pre-registration is encouraged due to the limited number of slots, but we ask that you have full intention of fishing the event before registering.

Tournament Headquarters

  • Halesford Harbour is our headquarters for the October event.
  • Crazy Horse Marina (Marker B-10A on the Blackwater side of the lake / 400 Crazy Horse Rd, Moneta) is our headquarters for the December event.
  • Mangos' Bar & Grill, located in Bridgewater Plaza just off Hwy VA-122 at the Halesford Bridge will be location for our March & April Post-tournament Check-in / Awards.  Friday night Captain's meetings will be held at The Inn at Halesford Harbor.

Tournament Entry Fees

Team Entry Fee (per tournament): $100
Big Fish (optional - per tournament): $25

Youth Competition

Youth (15 and under) may participate in an overlay competition in which they participate as a part of a team, and submit one fish from the team's catch as their entry into the Youth Competition.  1st - 3rd Place trophies & prizes will be awarded - and all Youth participants not placing will be eligible for a Youth only raffle for prizes.  Let's get the next generation of anglers involved in striper fishing now!

Ladies Prize

The longest fish of the series caught by a lady (16 and over) will win a fine timepiece from Reactor's Critical Mass line, donated by Haywood Jewelers.   This sharp looking watch with a $300 retail value will look great on the arm of any lady angler!

Big Fish of the Series

The Team which catches the biggest fish of the series (regardless of entry into the optional Big Fish pots) will be win the Doug Hill Preservation award along with a $1000 cash prize!

Tournament Payouts

Placing Payouts:
1 - 10 Teams:
1st Place: 80% of entry fees (up to $800)

11 - 20 Teams:
1st Place: 55% of entry fees (up to $1100)
2nd Place: 25% of entry fees (up to $500)

21-30 Teams:
1st Place: 50% of entry fees (up to $1500)
2nd Place: 20% of entry fees (up to $600)
3rd Place: 10% of entry fees (up to $300)

31-40 Teams:
1st Place: 45% of entry fees (up to $1800)
2nd Place:17.5% of entry fees (up to $700)
3rd Place: 10% of entry fees (up to $400)
4th Place: 7.5% of entry fees (up to $300)

40+ Teams:
1st Place: 40% of entry fees (up to $2000+)
2nd Place: 17.5% of entry fees (up to $875+)
3rd Place: 10% of entry fees (up to $500+)
4th Place: 7.5% of entry fees​ (up to $375+)
5th Place: 5% of entry fees (up to $250+)

10% of entry fees go to one or more cash-raffle prize(s) for the non-placing teams at the Awards Ceremony.  10% of entry fees retained for tournament expenses.

Big Fish: 100% Payout of optional Big Fish entry fee to winner with single longest fish, along with a $250 gift certificate to Green Top Sporting Goods.

Raffles: Many of our sponsors have graciously provided product and services to be given away during the event.​  Each team member will receive a raffle ticket at check-in and be eligible for prize drawings.

Team of the Year Series

Teams participating in multiple events will compete for the Humminbird Team of the Year honors, with the winning team being awarded a Helix 9si sonar / GPS unit along with a Lakemaster Mid-Atlantic Chart card.

Team of the Year is determined by the best three event scores, with the top 20 teams in each event being awarded points.
